The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has wholeheartedly supported the Attorney General of the State, Álvaro García Ortiz, after the Supreme Court opened a criminal procedure against him. Sánchez argued that García Ortiz was just doing his job by pursuing criminals and combating misinformation. He then called for the resignation of the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, citing the origin of the case as a rumor spread by the chief of staff of Ayuso’s partner, who had been under investigation for tax fraud. Sánchez questioned why the Popular Party had not demanded accountability from Díaz Ayuso and criticized her for allegedly benefiting from her partner’s enrichment during the pandemic.

Sánchez sought to turn the tables on the Popular Party, which had called for García Ortiz to step down or for the Government to take action to remove him from his position. He accused Díaz Ayuso of indirect involvement in her partner’s activities and demanded that the head of the Popular Party in Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, hold her accountable. Sánchez also referenced previous cases of alleged misconduct in other political parties to highlight the hypocrisy of the Popular Party’s demands for accountability. He emphasized the respect for the decisions of the Supreme Court in the case of the Attorney General, highlighting the role played by false information spread by Ayuso’s chief of staff.

The President’s call for accountability from Díaz Ayuso is not new, as he had previously urged Feijóo to demand her resignation over her partner’s tax fraud, for which he had confessed guilt. Sánchez linked this demand to previous criticisms made by Pablo Casado, the former President of the Popular Party, against Ayuso. In addition to addressing the case involving the Attorney General, Sánchez also commented on another judicial case surrounding the Government: the Koldo case. He acknowledged three responsibilities in this matter, including taking decisive action soon after the allegations surfaced, supporting the work of law enforcement agencies in their investigation, and continuing with the legislative agenda to advance social progress as planned.

Sánchez reiterated his support for the Attorney General and emphasized the importance of respecting the decisions of the judiciary. He highlighted the role of false information in the case against the Attorney General, pointing out the misinformation spread by Díaz Ayuso’s chief of staff. The President criticized the Popular Party’s lack of accountability for their own members while demanding action against members of the Government. He called for a consistent approach to handling cases of alleged misconduct and urged Feijóo to hold Díaz Ayuso accountable for her partner’s illegal activities.

In his statements, Sánchez also defended the actions taken by the Government in response to the Koldo case, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in addressing allegations of corruption. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing social progress through the legislative agenda and cooperation with law enforcement agencies. Sánchez’s comments reflect a commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability for those who engage in illegal activities, regardless of their political affiliation. The President’s stance underscores the importance of ethical conduct in public office and the need for consistent enforcement of legal standards to uphold the integrity of government institutions.
