Samsung has recently teased the release of its upcoming wearable, the Galaxy Ring, which is scheduled to be released in or around August. The company has unveiled some details about the device, including its features and functionality. Samsung has filed a suit against the Finnish company Oura, which currently dominates the market for finger-borne devices with its highly successful Oura Ring.

According to the lawsuit, Samsung has completed the design for the Galaxy Ring and expects to commence mass production by mid-June 2024, with sales expected to begin in the United States in August. While Samsung has not officially disclosed the mass production dates or the countries where the Galaxy Ring will be available, it is speculated that the device may be unveiled at the next Unpacked event in July. The vague release date of “in or around August” leaves room for the possibility of an early August or late July launch.

The Galaxy Ring is expected to feature health and fitness tracking technology similar to Samsung’s existing products such as the Galaxy Watch and Samsung Health app. The wearable will monitor heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels, movement, and sleep, providing users with valuable insights and guidance to improve their health and wellbeing. The device will also include an Energy Score derived from these metrics, offering a comprehensive health tracking experience for users.

In response to the potential competition from Oura’s smart ring, Samsung has preemptively filed a lawsuit against the company seeking a declaratory judgment that the Galaxy Ring does not infringe on five Oura patents. The lawsuit alleges that Oura has a history of filing patent suits against competitors based on common features of smart rings, such as sensors, electronics, batteries, and scores based on gathered metrics. This legal action indicates that the smart ring market is about to become more competitive as consumers will soon have a wider range of options to choose from.

While Samsung has not officially confirmed all the features of the Galaxy Ring, the recent lawsuit and details provided suggest that the wearable will offer an extensive range of health and fitness tracking capabilities. With the potential release date set for August, consumers can anticipate the arrival of Samsung’s new smart ring and the benefits it will bring in terms of tracking and improving their overall health and wellbeing.
