American McDonald’s customers are shocked to learn that ordering beer at the chain overseas is quite common.

“I’ve eaten at an Italian McDonald’s in Florence and Venice, just to see what it would be like… America could never,” one X user posted Monday. They noted washing down their meal with a beer was quite the experience enhancer.

“I had no idea some countries in Europe have McDonald’s that serve beer,” another user wrote this month with hopes that locations in the US and Canada would start tapping kegs.

As it is, pouring a cold one at a Mickey D’s is quite the cultural norm in 14 European nations, Chowhound reported.

Along with Italy, beer is served at McDonald’s in France, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Lithuania, Serbia, the Netherlands, Greece, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Germany.

However, customers in Deutschland have been complaining online that fewer locations offer the adult beverage. A patron also claimed Poland locations used to serve beer two decades ago.

Meanwhile, South Korean McDonald’s began selling alcohol in 2016.

Budweiser, Heineken, Coors, and Stella Artois are the most commonly sold — but most of the burger joints will add in a regional favorite, too.

This includes Mekkes in Germany, Pripps BI Lattol in Sweden, and Makgeoli in South Korea, according to Tasting Table. Peroni is popular in Italy, and Mahou is served in Spain.

Travel blogger Mark Harrison tried the de facto adult happy meal in Spain a year ago. The local golden arches served him “frothy” but “normal tasting” Mahou brew in a paper cup.

Although beer may not be on American McDonald’s menus, the McRib will return on Tuesday, Dec. 3 in McDonald’s flagship nation.
