Chris Weber, former chief revenue officer at GitLab, has joined Amazon’s Project Kuiper satellite business as its new vice president of sales and marketing.

Weber is a longtime tech leader who spent more than 24 years at Microsoft, where he held various corporate vice president roles. He was also an executive vice president at Nokia and was chief business officer at UiPath before joining software development company GitLab in July 2023.

“This is one of the most inspiring projects I’ve come across in my career, and as the VP of Sales & Marketing, I’m excited to play an important part in its mission to bring world-class broadband to customers and communities around the world,” Weber wrote on LinkedIn.

Project Kuiper is on track to begin offering broadband service to customers in 2025, according to comments made at an event in June celebrating a new satellite factory in Kirkland, Wash. More than 2,000 employees work on Project Kuiper at Seattle-area locations.

Other personnel changes across the Pacific Northwest tech industry:

— Docusign hired Paula Hansen as president and chief revenue officer, and Sagnik Nandy as chief technology officer. Hansen previously worked at Alteryx, SAP, and Cisco, while Nandy was at Okta and Google.

— Randy Hodgins, a longtime vice president and leader of the Office of External Affairs at the University of Washington, will retire at the end of the 2024-25 academic year.

— Heather Trestrail, former vice president of marketing at the WTIA, joined Amazon as a senior marketing manager.
