Costco is making a big change to one of its beloved bakery items — and customers are not happy.

Earlier this week, a shopper saw a sign at their local store showing the changes being made to Costco muffins.

The bakery is switching to smaller muffins and will no longer offer mix-and-match muffins. Instead of mixing and matching two 35-ounce six-packs of the larger muffins for $9.99, warehouses are selling one 31-ounce eight-pack of an individual flavor for $6.99.

After the shopper posted a photo of the notice to Reddit, fans started complaining about the changes — especially the price.

One customer calculated what the price per ounce in each container was and concluded that the “new ones are 58% more expensive.”

“So, smaller, more expensive muffins…” another wrote.

“At that price point I’ll just bake my own,” someone snarked.

“The new ones are smaller. Maybe around 70% of the size of the old one,” one pointed out.

Aside from the price, people complained that the new muffins weren’t nearly as tasty as the old, larger muffins.

“They’re so dry! The old ones were moist and delicious. The new ones are like they’ve been left out and have a weird aftertaste,” one person complained.

“Was excited about the 8 pack because we cannot eat 12 before they go bad, but they are objectively worse muffins,” another noted.

“The new muffins are great if you like a dry, grainy mess,” someone said. “Our family [has] bought the old muffins a few times a year for probably 25 years. We’ll never buy these new ones again, they were horrible.”

People were also devastated to learn they could no longer mix and match their muffin flavors.

“I really wish they had a variety pack. I don’t want to buy 8 of the same muffin flavor. 4 + 4 would have been ideal,” one wrote.

“My grandma and I used to split these before she died, so this is really bringing me down,” another shared.

“My family can’t agree on what flavor to get. We used to mix and freeze. We will probably be skipping these now,” a user commented.
