If you missed the new Cate Blanchett movie Black Bag in theaters—which some critics are calling the first must-see movie of 2025—there is good news. The Black Bag movie digital release date is tomorrow, meaning you will soon be able to buy and rent Black Bag online.
Directed by Steven Soderbergh, with a screenplay by David Koepp (who also collaborated with Soderbergh on the 2022 Max original movie Kimi starring Zoe Kravitz, and the recent 2025 horror movie Presence), Black Bag is a spy thriller starring Blanchett and Michael Fassbender as elite spies who also happen to be a married couple. When Blanchett’s character, Kathryn, is suspected of treason, Fassbender’s character, George, is forced to choose between his loyalty to his wife and his loyalty to his country.
Also starring Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan, Black Bag has critics buzzing. So far, the film has failed to make back its estimated $60 million production budget, earning just over $31 million at the worldwide box office. But with word-of-mouth love from cinephiles, perhaps Black Bag will fare better online.
That said, before you pay the premium price to buy or rent Black Bag on digital, you should know that Black Bag will likely be streaming on Peacock early this summer.
Where to watch the Black Bag movie on streaming:
Beginning on Tuesday, April 1 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also March 31 at 9 p.m. Pacific Time) the Black Bag movie will be available to buy and rent digitally on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the film costs $24.99 to buy a digital copy, and $19.99 to rent. If you rent the movie, you’ll have 48 hours to watch the movie after hitting “play.”
Black Bag is not yet streaming on any subscription streaming services, but we do expect to see Black Bag streaming on Peacock soon.
When will the Black Bag movie be streaming on Peacock?
Black Bag‘s streaming release date on Peacock has not yet been announced, but we know that Nosferatu will stream on Peacock eventually because it is a Focus Features/Universal movie, and Peacock is the streaming service owned by Universal. All the new Universal theatrical movies end up streaming on Peacock, though the wait period has varied by title.
Another Universal release, Nosferatu, began streaming on Peacock on February 21, which was about two months after the movie opened in theaters, and about one month after the film released on digital.
If Black Bag follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie streaming on Peacock around mid-May 2025.
This is all speculation. Universal has not had a consistent digital release strategy. If you want to watch Black Bag right away, you can buy or rent it online.
