Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett criticized Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, calling her racist and urging House Speaker Mike Johnson to take action against her after a heated exchange during a committee hearing last week. Crockett accused Greene of perpetuating racist stereotypes by making comments about Crockett’s appearance that were intended to appeal to the MAGA crowd.

During the Oversight Committee hearing where tensions escalated, Greene made a comment about a judge’s daughter, prompting Crockett to question the relevance of the remark. When Crockett asked Greene if she knew why they were there, Greene responded by making a comment about Crockett’s fake eyelashes, leading to a shouting match between the two congresswomen.

Crockett requested for Greene’s words to be stricken from the record during the confrontation, but the Chairman of the committee refused. Crockett felt that Greene’s comments were racially motivated and chose to capitalize on the situation by selling merchandise related to the incident. She also called out Speaker Johnson for not reining in Greene’s behavior and allowing her to act without consequences.

Crockett expressed feeling targeted by Greene and emphasized the lack of respect for rules and the law within the MAGA movement. She also offered advice to President Biden on connecting with black voters amidst a drop in support among this demographic, suggesting that people may not be aware of the work he has done for them.

Despite the criticism and backlash, Greene’s camp did not respond to requests for comment on the situation. Crockett continued to stand by her assertion that Greene’s actions were motivated by racism and highlighted the need for accountability and consequences for such behavior in Congress. She also criticized the lack of respect for the law within the MAGA movement and emphasized the importance of standing up to such behavior.
