Tiffany Henyard, the scandal-plagued Democratic mayor of Dolton, Illinois, is facing yet another crisis as she and her boyfriend, Kamal Woods, are reportedly being evicted from their rented home due to unpaid rent of over $3,300. The eviction notice was filed against the couple in Cook County Court, and they have also been accused of refusing to allow the property to be inspected. However, an attorney for Henyard denied these claims, stating that the couple has not missed any rent payments. This latest episode adds to the controversies surrounding Henyard, who has been dubbed by residents as “the worst mayor in America.”

Henyard, who has been described as a “supermayor,” has faced criticism for extravagant spending on the taxpayer’s dime. She has made national headlines for contentious town hall meetings with residents and city officials that have escalated to the point of requiring police intervention. In April, a meeting had to be shut down due to safety concerns, and in June, a scuffle broke out between supporters and opponents of Henyard. Most recently, a meeting in Thornton Township, where Henyard also serves as Supervisor, descended into chaos as township trustees questioned her spending habits. Henyard accused the trustees of attacking her, calling them hateful, jealous, and envious.

Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot had previously investigated Henyard for her spending habits in the Village of Dolton. A preliminary report revealed that the village’s general fund balance had gone from $5.61 million in 2022 to a deficit of $3.65 million by May 2024. Lightfoot also discovered that Henyard had used the village credit card to make purchases at various retailers, including Amazon, Target, Walgreens, and Wayfair. One shocking revelation was that Henyard spent $33,000 on Amazon on a single day in January 2023. Despite these financial concerns, Henyard recently spent approximately $85,000 on a party featuring R&B singer Keke Wyatt and rapper J. Holiday.

The controversies surrounding Henyard have led to calls for her to be more transparent in her spending habits. Despite facing criticism and investigations over her financial management in the Village of Dolton, there has been no probe into her actions regarding Thornton Township. Henyard has come under fire for her confrontational approach to handling criticism, accusing her board members of harboring hate, jealousy, and envy towards her. The escalating tensions between Henyard and town officials, as well as residents, have created a volatile environment in Dolton, with multiple incidents of violence and disruptions at public meetings.

The evictions notice for Henyard and her boyfriend comes amidst a series of scandals that have plagued her tenure as mayor. In addition to the financial mismanagement and lavish spending, Henyard has been criticized for her combative and divisive leadership style. The ongoing investigations into her actions have raised concerns about the ethical conduct of elected officials and the importance of accountability in government. As the controversies continue to unfold, residents of Dolton and Thornton Township are left questioning the leadership of Henyard and the impact of her actions on their communities. The future of Henyard’s political career remains uncertain as she faces mounting pressure to address the allegations against her and provide answers to her constituents.
