Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll recently filed for divorce after seven years of marriage, leaving fans wondering what could have caused their split. Before their marriage came to an end, they had a lavish wedding ceremony in Ireland in 2017. The couple booked out Ashford Castle, an 800-year-old castle, for their wedding weekend, which included more than 200 guests such as Niall Horan, Chris Martin, Jamie Dornan, and golfer Sergio Garcia. The estimated cost of the wedding was around $1.2 million.

The star-studded ceremony reportedly featured Stevie Wonder performing with an 18-piece band, and Ed Sheeran serenading the newlyweds. A fireworks show was rumored to have occurred at the end of the night. Security was tight throughout the weekend, with staff at Ashford Castle having to sign nondisclosure agreements and surrender their cell phones before working. Only a few photos of the ceremony have surfaced online due to the strict security measures.

McIlroy and Stoll’s love story began in a more casual way, as they met during a golf tournament in 2012 but didn’t start dating until 2015. McIlroy appreciated that Stoll was leading a normal life and found it refreshing to be with someone who wasn’t caught up in the jet-setting lifestyle. He mentioned in an interview that they were friends before anything romantic happened, and they realized there was something more between them as they spent time together.

After getting married, the couple welcomed their daughter, Poppy, in August 2020. McIlroy shared how becoming a father had positively changed his life and gave him a new perspective. He expressed admiration for mothers and the experience of having a child, calling it the best part of being a human being. Despite their divorce, it is clear that McIlroy and Stoll’s relationship had its share of happy moments, including their wedding and the birth of their daughter.
