Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice surrendered to police after a crash involving a half-dozen vehicles on a Dallas highway last month. Rice, represented by Texas state Sen. Royce West, turned himself in on charges including aggravated assault. He was booked into the Regional Jail in DeSoto and released on bond. Rice expressed remorse for the accident in a statement, taking full responsibility for his actions.

Arrest warrants were also issued for Theodore Knox, the driver of another speeding sports car involved in the crash. Knox, who was driving a Corvette, faces charges similar to those of Rice, including aggravated assault and collision involving injury. Knox was not in custody at the time of the report, and Southern Methodist University announced his suspension from the football team. Knox’s attorney stated that he is cooperating with law enforcement.

Both Rice and Knox were allegedly speeding in the far left lane when they lost control of their vehicles. The Lamborghini that Rice was driving hit the center median wall, causing a chain collision. After the crash, Rice and Knox reportedly left the scene without checking on the other parties involved or providing their information. Four people sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Rice, who grew up in North Richland Hills and played college football at Southern Methodist University, had a standout senior season in 2022 that caught the attention of NFL teams. The Kansas City Chiefs drafted him in the second round, and he quickly became a key player in their passing game. The the 23-year-old receiver has been praised for his talent and performance on the field, but now faces legal challenges following the recent crash.

Rice’s lawyer emphasized his client’s cooperation with law enforcement and acknowledgment of his role in the accident. Despite the charges he is facing, Rice is continuing to work with legal authorities in addressing the consequences of the crash. The incident highlights the impact of reckless driving and the importance of following proper procedures after a collision to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved. The legal proceedings will continue as Rice and Knox navigate the consequences of their actions.
