The scandal involving former Italian Minister of Culture Alberto Bonelli and entrepreneur Maria Rosaria Boccia has now moved into the legal realm, specifically to the offices of the Rome prosecutor’s office. There are accusations of misappropriation of public funds for Boccia’s travels with the former minister, as well as the revelation and use of confidential information related to emails about the organization of the G7 in Pompeii. This has led to the opening of an investigation file following a complaint from AVS MP Angelo Bonelli, which alleges potential criminal offenses. Additionally, former TG2 director Sangiuliano has also filed a complaint against Boccia, claiming illicit pressure and attempted extortion.

The legal proceedings resulting from the allegations will run parallel with investigations stemming from Bonelli’s complaint. Investigating authorities will conduct various inspections and hearings to determine if any illegal activities occurred, particularly regarding the use of ministerial security vehicles and public funds for Boccia’s travels with the ex-minister. If any wrongdoing is found, the case could end up in front of the tribunal of ministers, even though Sangiuliano is no longer in charge of the ministry. There is also a focus on anonymous social media accounts that have been sharing information about the case, with allegations that the former minister was being blackmailed.

Not only is the criminal justice system involved, but administrative justice is also looking into the political scandal. The Court of Auditors is preparing to launch an investigation into possible misuse of public funds, looking at expenses incurred by the Ministry of Culture, particularly related to the use of government vehicles and the attendance of events funded by state contributions. The financial police have also initiated checks on real estate transactions involving the key figure in the scandal and the awarding of contracts for the G7 Cultural Summit in Campania.

Meanwhile, Maria Rosaria Boccia has shifted her attention from the former minister to addressing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In a post on Instagram directed at Meloni, she calls for kindness and understanding, stating that every woman should be free to live her essence while respecting others’ boundaries. Boccia seems to be suggesting that Meloni should listen with an open mind to fully comprehend the situation before choosing a course of action. She questions the premier’s readiness for conflict, urging her to set aside any aggressive stance. This shift in focus indicates that Boccia is attempting to change the narrative surrounding the scandal and potentially influence public opinion.
