King Charles III reportedly offered son Prince Harry a place to stay in a royal residence in London during his recent trip, as reported by the Sunday Times’ royal editor Roya Nikkhah. Harry, who now lives in California with his wife Meghan Markle, no longer has an official residence in the U.K. since stepping down from their royal duties in 2020. Despite the offer, he declined and opted for a hotel stay during his visit to attend a service celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which he co-founded. This decision led to Harry not meeting with his father during his time in London.

A spokesperson for Harry confirmed that a meeting with his father, King Charles III, was not possible due to His Majesty’s full program during Harry’s visit to the U.K. Charles and Harry have had a strained relationship since Harry’s decision to step down from his royal duties. However, they did manage to reopen lines of communication after Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer earlier in the year. Harry expressed his love for his family in a previous interview and mentioned being grateful for the opportunity to spend time with his father following his diagnosis.

Despite their ongoing tensions, Harry did visit Charles earlier this year after his diagnosis was publicly confirmed. Charles took a break from his public duties to undergo treatment and resumed his official engagements later on. Princess Kate Middleton, William’s wife, is also going through treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer and is not expected to resume her duties until cleared by her doctor. William briefly halted his responsibilities to support Kate during this time but has now returned to work.

Although Harry and Meghan are still estranged from William and Kate since their royal exit, they did privately reach out to offer support when they learned of Kate’s illness. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are being respectful and giving the royal couple space during this difficult time. After his trip to London, Harry reunited with Meghan for their first official tour in Nigeria, continuing their charitable work and public engagements despite the ongoing challenges within the royal family.
