Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation was recently found to be “delinquent,” but they have since rectified the situation and are now fully compliant and in good standing. The issue arose when they failed to submit annual required reports and renewal fees to California’s Registry of Charities and Fundraisers. This resulted in their Foundation being prohibited from engaging in fundraising activities until the matter was resolved. The required payments were made promptly and in accordance with the IRS’s processes and procedures, without any errors or wrongdoing.

The amount owed by the Archewell Foundation was revealed to be approximately $200, not including any late fees. Despite acting quickly to rectify the situation, the process was delayed due to the couple’s trip to Nigeria. While initially, it was reported that an extension had been filed for, it later became apparent that the initial check sent to the attorney general’s office had not been received, prompting the issuance of a new one. The couple was surprised by the news and took immediate action to resolve the matter to ensure their foundation’s compliance and good standing.

The California attorney general, Rob Bonta, issued a letter notifying the couple and their team about their delinquent status and the consequences of failing to submit required documentation and fees. Being listed as delinquent meant that the Archewell Foundation was not in good standing and was prohibited from raising or spending charitable funds until the issue was resolved. Failure to comply could lead to penalties, suspension, or revocation of registration by the Registry.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle set up the Archewell Foundation after stepping down from their royal duties and moving to Montecito in 2020. The Foundation includes both nonprofit charitable activities and for-profit business divisions focusing on media production. Despite the initial hiccup with the Foundation’s registration, the couple remains committed to their philanthropic efforts and continue to work towards making a positive impact through their various projects and initiatives. The Archewell Foundation remains an essential part of their mission to create positive change in the world.
