A Florida man, Carlos Yadiel Baez Nieves, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of two women, Fatia Flowers and Nichole Daniels, in Orange County. Authorities believe Baez Nieves specifically targeted vulnerable women as his victims. Flowers was the first body discovered, with signs of strangulation, followed a month later by Daniels, who also showed signs of neck trauma. Both victims were transient sex workers who resided in the area where they were found.

Detectives were able to identify Baez Nieves as a suspect after witnesses reported seeing Daniels with him, entering his white Ford pickup truck. Surveillance footage confirmed Daniels entering the truck before her death. Baez Nieves was attempting to sell the truck to eliminate any evidence within it. After being arrested for driving on a suspended license, he ultimately confessed to killing both women during police interviews. Sheriff John Mina commended the detectives’ efforts, stating that they may have prevented Baez Nieves from becoming a serial killer.

Sheriff Mina described the crimes as particularly heinous, accusing Baez Nieves of targeting women whom he believed wouldn’t be missed. Flowers and Daniels were left on the side of the road as if they were trash. The Medical Examiner’s Office determined both deaths to be suspicious, with Flowers showing signs of strangulation and Daniels displaying similar neck trauma. Baez Nieves’ motive for targeting these women remains unclear, but authorities suspect he preyed on their vulnerability.

The arrest of Baez Nieves took place after an extensive investigation that uncovered key evidence linking him to the murders. Detectives were able to connect him to the distinctive white Ford pickup truck seen in surveillance footage and establish a connection between him and the victims. Baez Nieves’ actions in attempting to sell the truck indicated a potential cover-up of the crimes. His confession to the murders came after being questioned by authorities, leading to his eventual arrest on charges of first-degree murder.

The case of Baez Nieves’ arrest has raised concerns about the safety of vulnerable individuals, particularly sex workers, who may be targeted by predators. Authorities urge anyone who may have information related to this case or others like it to come forward. The vigilance of detectives in this case is highlighted as critical in potentially preventing further violence and apprehending the suspect before he could harm more victims. The community is reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. Sheriff Mina expressed confidence in the law enforcement’s ability to stop Baez Nieves from becoming a dangerous serial killer.
