Jerry Seinfeld’s Netflix original comedy movie, “Unfrosted,” which tells the story of the origin of Pop-Tarts, has been a hit with viewers. Co-written and directed by Seinfeld, who also stars in the film as Kellogg’s executive Bob Cabana, the movie is set in the 1960s during a battle between cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post to create the first breakfast toaster pastry. Alongside Seinfeld, the film stars Jim Gaffigan, Melissa McCarthy, and Amy Schumer in fictionalized roles, with Schumer playing a heightened comedic version of a real-life figure, Marjorie Post.

Upon its debut, “Unfrosted” quickly climbed to the top of Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies chart, with 7.1 million views and 11.3 million viewing hours. In the US, the film debuted at No. 3. The romantic comedy “Anyone But You” and Zack Snyder’s space opus “Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver” followed behind “Unfrosted” on the chart, with Woody Woodpecker and a health documentary rounding out the top five for that week.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes were not overly impressed with “Unfrosted,” giving it a 41% rating based on 85 reviews. However, viewers’ opinions were slightly more favorable, with a 50% neutral Audience Score based on over 500 ratings. In addition to the main cast, the film included numerous cameos from stand-up comedians and actors, such as Bill Burr, Cedric the Entertainer, members of Saturday Night Live, and Hollywood stars like James Marsden, Hugh Grant, and Jon Hamm. A mini Mad Men reunion between Hamm and John Slattery added to the star-studded cast list.

“Unfrosted” has brought a fictionalized and comedic take on the creation of Pop-Tarts to viewers on Netflix. With its unique story and talented cast, the film has found success and popularity among audiences, even if critical reception has been more mixed. As its viewing numbers continue to climb, “Unfrosted” proves to be a strong addition to Netflix’s original movie offerings.
