A man was found dead on Monday with a gunshot wound in his back in a villa in Estepona (Málaga, population 74,493) where a party had reportedly taken place. The National Police have opened an investigation to identify the victim and clarify what happened. Police sources have stated that no arrests have been made yet in connection with the incident. This year, the Costa del Sol has seen at least fifteen incidents involving firearms. The Emergency services received a call in the morning reporting gunshots at a chalet located in the El Paraíso urbanization, a luxury residential area east of Estepona, near San Pedro Alcántara. The caller reported at least one person injured. Police and medical personnel responded to the scene, where they found the body of a man with a gunshot wound in his back. Two other individuals were also treated on-site but did not require hospitalization.

The authorities have taken over the investigation to first identify the deceased man and then determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Initial information suggests that the villa may have been the scene of a party, according to police sources, who have stated that no arrests have been made yet. This incident adds to the more than fifteen firearm-related incidents that have occurred along the Costa del Sol, particularly in the areas of Fuengirola, Mijas, Estepona, and Marbella. Several incidents have occurred in various locations in Marbella, prompting the Ministry of the Interior to implement the Marbella Plan, which involves increased police presence, random checks, and reinforcement from other provinces. In April 2021, a man died at a party in Marbella that was held without authorization during pandemic restrictions. A young man fired three shots into the ceiling to get the attention of the thirty guests in the house, but one bullet ricocheted and hit the DJ in the neck. Only one person, a cleaning staff member, aided the injured man while the other guests fled the scene.
