The City of Love, Paris, will have “anti-sex” beds installed in the athletes’ village ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in an attempt to discourage lovemaking. The twin size beds provided by Airweave are intentionally small, making it difficult for athletes to engage in any intimate activities. This decision comes after similar measures were taken for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The use of these unusual beds is intended to promote sustainability, as the mattresses and cardboard frames are 100% recyclable. The organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympics aim to reduce their impact on the environment by implementing these eco-friendly sleeping arrangements. Georgina Grenon, the director of environmental excellence for the organizing committee, hopes that these efforts will set an example for future events.

Despite efforts to discourage sexual activity among athletes, stories of wild encounters at the Olympic Games have been a common occurrence over the years. Athletes have been known to engage in various intimate activities during the games, with one instance involving a table tennis player who claimed to have a debaucherous time at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Such incidents have become part of the lore surrounding the Olympic Village.

In addition to the 1992 Olympics, there have been reports of sexual encounters among athletes at the 2012 games in London. An anonymous athlete revealed having a foursome with a male teammate and two women at the Olympic Village, showcasing the extent of intimacy that can occur during these global sporting events. Despite the introduction of cardboard beds, it remains to be seen if they will effectively deter athletes from engaging in sexual activities during the games.

While reports of athletes engaging in sexual activities at the Olympics have been well-documented, the introduction of cardboard “anti-sex” beds is a unique approach to addressing this issue. These beds have sparked a debate about whether such measures are necessary or if they infringe on the personal lives of the athletes. Whether these beds will have the intended effect of curbing sexual activity among athletes remains to be seen, as the allure of the Olympic Village has often led to unexpected encounters between competitors. The implementation of these cardboard beds adds an interesting twist to the history of intimate escapades at the Olympic Games.
