An Oklahoma woman, Amy Leann Hall, has been sentenced to spend the rest of her life behind bars for the brutal killings of her 18-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter in 2018. District Judge Ronald A. White ordered Hall to serve two life sentences in a federal penitentiary for the murders, as well as an additional 20 years in prison for the shooting of her 14-year-old daughter, who survived. Hall pleaded guilty to the charges on November 28, 2022. The tragic incident occurred at the family’s Oklahoma home on November 1, 2018, when Hall entered her children’s bedrooms while they slept and shot them in the head.

Authorities reported that Hall shot her 18-year-old son, Kayson Toliver, in the head while he slept in his room, and then proceeded to the bedrooms of her 16- and 14-year-old daughters, shooting both of them as well. Kloee Toliver, the 16-year-old daughter, never regained consciousness and passed away four days later from her injuries, while the 14-year-old daughter survived. Hall’s plan to murder her children was interrupted when she left the scene in a vehicle and led police on a high-speed car chase, reaching speeds close to 100 mph before being stopped and taken into custody.

Hall claimed that she was attempting to “save” her children from their abusive father and also intended to take her own life. She and the children’s father had been separated, and engaged in a custody battle for two years leading up to the tragic event. In October 2018, Hall filed for temporary sole custody of the children through an emergency order. The father had previously accused Hall of being mentally unstable and psychologically abusive towards the children in 2016. Despite previous domestic calls to the home, no arrests had been made in relation to the family’s issues.

Kayson Toliver was a standout running back on the Beggs High School Golden Demons football team and had led the offense in his senior season with 580 yards and five touchdowns. He was also named a National Honor Society student in June. The United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Christopher J. Wilson, expressed the unimaginable violence that was visited upon the family, stating that while nothing would ever make things right, justice required a careful consideration of all facts, including the interests of the surviving victim. Based on these considerations, a life sentence was recommended in this case.

The tragic murders committed by Amy Leann Hall have resulted in a life sentence for the Oklahoma woman, who claimed to be protecting her children from their abusive father. The events that transpired on November 1, 2018, at the family’s home led to the death of 16-year-old Kloee Toliver and left her 14-year-old sister injured. Kayson Toliver, the 18-year-old son, was also a victim in the heinous crime. Despite Hall’s claims of trying to save her children, the court found her guilty of their murders and sentenced her to life in prison. The community was shocked by the brutal actions of a mother towards her own children, with the legal system seeking to deliver justice for the victims and their surviving family members.
