The North Aegean Group Command of the Coast Guard detected irregular migrants on a rubber boat off the coast of Ayvacık. The Coast Guard patrol boat “TCSG-8” was sent to the area, and the teams apprehended 19 irregular migrants, including 5 children of Syrian, Palestinian, and Sudanese nationality, on the rubber boat.

The foreign nationals were taken ashore and sent to the Ayvacık Repatriation Center. The Coast Guard continues to monitor the region for any further illegal migration attempts, as the issue of irregular migration remains a significant challenge in the region.

Illegal migration across the Aegean Sea has been a persistent problem, with thousands of people attempting dangerous journeys in overcrowded and often unseaworthy boats to reach Europe. The Coast Guard and other authorities have been working tirelessly to intercept these boats and prevent further loss of life at sea.

The Ayvacık Repatriation Center serves as a facility where irregular migrants are temporarily held before being deported back to their home countries. The center plays a crucial role in managing the influx of migrants and ensuring their safety and well-being during the deportation process.

The Coast Guard’s efforts to combat irregular migration are part of a wider strategy to secure the borders and prevent illegal crossings. By intercepting and apprehending illegal migrants, the Coast Guard aims to disrupt human trafficking networks and maintain the security of the region’s maritime borders.

Overall, the recent interception of 19 irregular migrants off the coast of Ayvacık highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in addressing illegal migration in the North Aegean region. The Coast Guard’s vigilance and swift response to such incidents are essential in protecting lives and maintaining the integrity of the borders.
