Nicolas Cage has signed on to reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir in a new live-action series for MGM+ and Amazon Prime. Cage will play the character he voiced in the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. The series, titled Noir, will follow an aging and down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to confront his past life as the city’s superhero. The announcement was made prior to Amazon Prime’s upfront presentations to advertisers.

The series is a part of expanding the Marvel universe and will be produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, Katherine Pope, expressed excitement over having Nicolas Cage star in this series. Cage’s diverse acting background, including an Academy Award-winning performance in Leaving Las Vegas, makes him an ideal choice for the role. This will be Cage’s first time as a series regular on television, adding to his already impressive career in film.

The role in Noir will be Cage’s first as a series regular on television, marking a new venture in his career. The series has been in development since 2023 and will come from writers Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will also serve as executive producers and co-showrunners. Emmy-winning director Harry Bradbeer will direct and executive produce the first two episodes of the series, continuing the collaboration with the team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Amazon Prime is excited to bring the Noir series to its global Prime Video customers, expanding the Marvel universe in an authentic way. Head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, Vernon Sanders, highlighted Nicolas Cage as the perfect choice for the superhero role in the new series. Sony is dedicated to growing and exploring this franchise, with the talent involved ensuring a compelling reimagining of the iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.

The official logline of Noir outlines the series’ premise, following an aging private investigator in 1930s New York who must come to terms with his past as the city’s former superhero. Cage’s portrayal of the character will bring pathos, pain, and heart to the role, creating a unique and compelling narrative. With the team of writers, producers, and directors behind the series, including Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, who worked on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, audiences can expect an engaging and visually stunning adaptation of the character in a live-action format.
