Nick Burdi, a relief pitcher for the Yankees who has not allowed a run in 6 ¹/₃ innings and has struck out eight, was placed on the 15-day injured list due to right hip inflammation. The discomfort was felt on the final pitch of his outing on Tuesday. Manager Aaron Boone described the inflammation as minor and mentioned that the team will be cautious with Burdi, given his extensive injury history that includes two Tommy John surgeries and a procedure for thoracic outlet syndrome. The team is focused on ensuring that Burdi does not compensate for his hip issue in a way that could lead to an arm injury.

Meanwhile, Clarke Schmidt had a strong performance, allowing only one run on seven hits in 5 ¹/₃ innings. This outing marked the first time he reached 100 pitches in 71 career major league games. Schmidt expressed his excitement at going deeper into games and working on improving various aspects of his game during the season. Dennis Santana also contributed with a strong performance, earning his first win as a Yankee. Following Burdi’s placement on the injured list, Cody Morris was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to provide depth in the bullpen.

The Yankees claimed Taylor Trammell from the Dodgers, a former top prospect, to add depth to their outfield. Trammell, a left-handed hitter, has yet to fully translate his potential in the majors but is considered a talented player by the team. Manager Aaron Boone sees Trammell as someone who can contribute as a pinch-runner and play any outfield position. In order to make room for Trammell on the roster, the team designated infielder Kevin Smith for assignment, leaving them with limited infield depth. Oswaldo Cabrera will serve as the backup shortstop in the absence of DJ LeMahieu.

Boone also mentioned his excitement for Saturday’s festivities, where the team will honor longtime radio voice John Sterling. Boone praised Sterling for being the voice of a generation for Yankees fans and expressed his hope that one of Sterling’s catchphrases will be incorporated into the team’s victories going forward. The team is looking to adapt to the changes in their roster and continue their strong performances on the field. Despite the challenges posed by injuries and roster adjustments, the Yankees are confident in their ability to overcome these obstacles and remain competitive in the league.
