Victor Cho, the former CEO of Evite, is leading a new Seattle-based startup called Emovid that aims to revolutionize workplace communication by replacing written emails with asynchronous video messages. The platform is not targeted towards consumers like Snap or Zoom, but rather focuses on business correspondence, allowing users to record and share video messages for later viewing. Cho believes that video messages convey a more authentic communication, capturing voice and tone that is missing from written emails.

Emovid’s co-founders include Digvijay Chauhan and Rupali Pathania, who bring a wealth of experience in technology and video platforms to the startup. Cho estimates that a significant portion of email volume could be shifted to Emovid’s platform, as recording a spoken message is faster than typing out lengthy emails. The platform does not require users to download an app, as videos can be recorded and sent directly from the web platform, and shared via links in email clients, social media, and messaging apps.

One of Emovid’s key features is the use of artificial intelligence, including generative AI, to generate AI summaries and transcripts for each video message. AI prompts also assist users in composing their video messages by providing speaking suggestions that appear as a teleprompter. The AI technology is also utilized to enhance the video backgrounds and speaker appearances, ensuring a professional and polished final product. Additionally, Emovid is committed to verifying authenticity, adding an “authenticity verified” seal to each video to ensure identity verification.

Despite previous attempts by other startups, such as Voodle, to disrupt workplace communication with video platforms, Emovid believes it can succeed where others have fallen short. While Voodle offered two-way selfie video chat, Emovid’s focus on asynchronous video communication and authenticity verification sets it apart. Emovid is currently in the process of raising a seed round of funding and is accepting users on its waitlist as it prepares to launch its platform to the public. With a strong team and innovative technology, Emovid aims to redefine workplace communication with its video messaging platform.
