Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman are starring together in the Netflix rom-com “A Family Affair.” Efron plays cocky movie star Chris Cole, who enters a relationship with his assistant Zara’s mother, played by Kidman. This is the second time the two have played romantic partners after appearing in “The Paperboy” in 2012 and “The Butler” in 2013. The trailer shows Zara catching them in a compromising position, leading to comedic moments.

Throughout the trailer, Zara expresses her disapproval of her mother’s relationship with her boss to various people. She believes Chris is self-absorbed and selfish, while Kidman’s character has her own mother calling Chris “BuzzFeed’s Hunkiest Brunette.” Zara tries to put an end to the situation by confronting Chris and declaring the “gross sexcapade thing” with her mother is over, but her efforts seem futile as the relationship continues to develop.

Despite Zara’s objections, Chris and Zara’s mother continue their relationship, leading to a comedic climax where Zara is left shouting at them in a parked car. She worries that Chris will hurt her mother and vows to take action. Efron expressed his excitement about reuniting with Kidman on-screen, praising her talent and kindness. Director Richard LaGravenese highlighted the fun dynamic between Joey King and Zac Efron’s characters, as well as the role reversal between mother and daughter.

“A Family Affair” was originally set for release in November 2023 but was delayed due to strikes from the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The film will finally be available on Netflix on June 28. The movie promises a mix of comedy and romance, with the unlikely pairing of Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman as the central focus of the story. Fans of romantic comedies and the two actors can look forward to their dynamic on-screen chemistry and the humorous situations that arise from their characters’ relationship.
