Fiona ‘Fi’ Donnison, a 47-year-old mother of two from Edinburgh, battled breast cancer in 2020 and underwent three operations and radiotherapy. While she thought the cancer was a threat, it was a blood clot that made her fear for her life. Alone due to pandemic restrictions, Fi struggled through treatments but eventually felt extremely unwell in March 2021. She experienced fatigue, breathing difficulties, and a loss of sensation in her arm, leading her to seek medical help. Tests revealed severe blood clots in her shoulder, requiring six weeks of blood thinners. The combined fear of cancer and blood clots loomed large over Fi, changing her outlook on life.

Despite the challenges, Fi remains positive and credits her sons, Dexter and Stanley, for supporting her throughout her battle with cancer and blood clots. Her children witnessed her struggles during treatments, but Fi was relieved to finally receive news of being cancer-free in March 2022. This led her to embrace a new zest for life and a drive to give back to the cancer community. Fi has since raised funds for charity and engaged in various awareness efforts, including participating in a hike challenge for CoppaFeel. She hopes to inspire others facing similar challenges and emphasize the importance of regular self-checks and early detection.
