In the war-torn regions of Kherson and Luhansk in Ukraine, Russia-installed officials reported that at least 28 people were killed in Ukrainian attacks. The attack on the town of Sadove in Kherson resulted in the death of 22 people and the injury of 15. Russian-appointed governor Vladimir Saldo stated that Ukrainian forces used guided bombs and missiles in the assault, deliberately targeting civilians who came out to help the wounded. A day of mourning was declared in Luhansk, with public events canceled in Kherson for the following days.

Further east in the partially occupied Luhansk region, two more bodies were recovered following a Ukrainian missile attack on the regional capital. The death toll rose to six, with 60 people wounded as reported by Russia-appointed governor Leonid Pasechnik. Ukraine did not comment on these assaults, and the drone attacks between Russia and Ukraine continued. Ukraine launched drones into Russian territory, with 25 reportedly destroyed over various regions. Russian air defenses managed to shoot down Ukrainian drones over North Ossetia, marking the first interception in that region.

In response, Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of one Ukrainian drone, while regional authorities claimed three were downed over North Ossetia. Ukrainian air defense also intercepted Russian drones over several regions of Ukraine, causing damage to commercial and residential buildings. Ukrainian forces claimed control over more than half of the town of Vovchansk, a key area in the Kharkiv region targeted by Russia’s offensive. The situation in Kharkiv reflects a coordinated effort by Russia to test Ukrainian defenses in various regions.

On the same day, an attempt was made on the life of the ex-mayor of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region in Russia’s Belgorod region. The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense stated that the ex-mayor, Hennadiy Matsehora, was in critical condition after collaborating with Russian troops and signing an agreement for the occupation of Kharkiv. After the Ukrainian Armed Forces regained control, Matsehora fled with the Russians to the Belgorod region. Ukrainian intelligence labeled him as a traitor in a statement on a social messaging app. The situation in Ukraine continues to escalate with ongoing attacks and clashes in various regions.

In summary, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has intensified in recent days, with casualties reported in Kherson and Luhansk due to Ukrainian attacks. Both sides engaged in drone attacks across their territories, resulting in downed drones and damages to buildings. The situation in Vovchansk remains volatile, with Ukraine claiming control over part of the city. Additionally, the attempted assassination of the ex-mayor of Kupiansk highlights the complex nature of the conflict and the involvement of various actors. The ongoing violence and tensions between Russia and Ukraine show no signs of abating as the situation continues to evolve.
