Over the past day, 5,762 civilians in Kharkiv Oblast have been evacuated from their homes due to heavy fighting in the region. Russia launched new offensive actions on May 10 in the directions of Lyptsi and Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast, resulting in more than 30 settlements coming under Russian artillery and mortar fire. The town of Vovchansk was hit by a series of massive shelling, leading to injuries among civilians. The enemy currently has tactical success in the fight for Vovchansk, according to Ukraine’s General Staff. Of the evacuated civilians, 2,589 were from Kharkiv district, 2,695 from Chuhuiv district, and 44 from Bohoduhiv district.

Vovchansk is the primary target of Russia’s new offensive into Kharkiv Oblast, marking the first significant push to take territory across the border since the area was liberated from Russian occupation in 2022. The ongoing ground offensive in Vovchansk has resulted in civilian casualties and forced thousands to flee their homes. The escalation of violence in the region has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of residents, with reports of continued shelling and attacks on populated areas. Civilians in Kharkiv Oblast are facing a dire humanitarian crisis as a result of the ongoing conflict.
