Grade 3 students from Miss Edgar’s & Miss Cramp’s School in Westmount organized a viewing party to witness the total solar eclipse together. More than 250 students, staff, and families gathered on school grounds to watch the astronomical event. The girls had been planning the event for months, setting up game stations and booths for everyone to enjoy. The students were awestruck by the rare opportunity to witness the eclipse, describing it as both awesome and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

After the event, the students were encouraged to donate their eclipse glasses to be used by others in areas experiencing future celestial events. Some people dropped off their glasses at the school, and a notice will be sent out asking for more donations. The school plans to send the glasses to an organization that will redirect them to locations where they will be needed for upcoming eclipses. The decision to donate the glasses was made to ensure that others could also enjoy the amazing experience of viewing a solar eclipse.

Caroline de Marchie, the school’s junior entrepreneurial lead, commended the students for their hard work in organizing the viewing party. The girls were involved in every aspect of the event, from planning the setup to creating game stations for everyone to enjoy. Despite the event being over, the learning continued as the students were encouraged to donate their glasses or recycle them for future use. De Marchie wanted to ensure that the girls knew what to do with the glasses they had used for the eclipse.

Experts suggest that if you are unable to donate your eclipse glasses, you can recycle them by removing the lenses first. Alternatively, you can keep them as a keepsake for future eclipses that you may want to witness. The students at Miss Edgar’s & Miss Cramp’s School were excited to share their experience with others and provide a way for more people to enjoy the wonder of a solar eclipse. The event brought the school community together, creating lasting memories for all who were able to witness the celestial phenomenon.
