The Baltimore community is reeling after a tragic incident in which six construction workers were plunged into a murky river after a cargo ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Residents and workers were shocked by the disaster, with many expressing disbelief at the tragic turn of events.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore has pledged to use every available resource to recover the victims. Despite an initial belief that an extensive search could locate and rescue the missing individuals, the search was ultimately suspended, and efforts transitioned to a recovery mission. Governor Moore reiterated his commitment to the families of the victims, promising to provide closure and support during this difficult time.

Radio traffic obtained from the Broadcastify.com archive revealed that officers were on the verge of alerting a construction crew to stop traffic on the bridge before it collapsed. The container ship responsible for the tragedy had passed two foreign port inspections earlier in 2023, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. While the specific locations of the inspections were not disclosed, it was noted that the ship had rectified a faulty monitor gauge for fuel pressure during the June inspection.

The container ship, named the Dali, had been built by Hyundai in 2014 and was under the oversight of a classification society called Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK). This organization conducted surveys of the ship’s systems to ensure their proper functioning, with the vessel receiving certificates enabling it to carry various items and goods. Despite these precautions, the ship tragically lost power and collided with the bridge, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives.

The Baltimore community mourns the loss of the six construction workers and pledges to support their families during this difficult time. Governor Moore and local officials have vowed to continue the recovery efforts and ensure that the victims are located and brought home with dignity. The investigation into the cause of the bridge collapse and the role of the container ship in the incident is ongoing, as the community seeks answers and closure in the wake of this devastating event.
