Miranda Cosgrove disclosed in an interview that she still struggles with fear stemming from a stalking incident that occurred nearly a decade ago. The former Nickelodeon star revealed that her fear is so intense that she often goes back and forth to her parents’ house because she doesn’t feel safe in her own home. The incident, which took place eight years ago, involved a man stalking Cosgrove, eventually ending his life by lighting himself on fire and fatally shooting himself in her yard. The trauma from the event prevented Cosgrove from staying in her house for two years afterwards, and even now she admits to feeling uneasy when she is alone there.

After the stalker ended his own life, he shot at a woman who was driving around Cosgrove’s home, mistaking her for the actress. This woman later approached Cosgrove at an event, revealing that she was the one who was shot at in front of the star’s house. Cosgrove noted that she felt a connection with the woman, as they both seemed to process the traumatic event in a similar way. Despite having gone through this horrific experience, the iCarly alum shared that she has not been able to find a place where she feels truly safe in order to start a new chapter in her life.

Cosgrove is just one of many celebrities who have been victims of stalking. Other high-profile celebrities like Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, and Ariana Grande have also been pursued by obsessive fans, facing similar dangerous situations. In January, Taylor Swift’s stalker was arrested multiple times for lurking around her New York City home and attempting to gain entry. The tragic reality of stalking reached a deadly outcome for Christina Grimmie, who was shot and killed by a stalker during a meet-and-greet after one of her concerts in 2016.

Despite the challenges Cosgrove has faced in the entertainment industry, she has managed to maintain a wholesome and clean lifestyle. In December, the young actress revealed that she has never been drunk or smoked in her life. She attributes this to initially acting as the designated driver for her friends and then continuing the practice out of habit. Cosgrove takes pride in this choice and sees it as a way to maintain control and responsibility in her life.

The trauma of being stalked has had a lasting impact on Cosgrove, with feelings of fear and vulnerability still affecting her daily life. While she has been able to maintain her sobriety and avoid risky behaviors, the emotional toll of the stalking incident lingers. Despite her struggles, Cosgrove continues to pursue her career and personal goals, searching for a safe space where she can start anew. The support of loved ones and shared experiences with others who have faced similar trauma have helped Cosgrove navigate the aftermath of her harrowing experience. Through her resilience and determination, Cosgrove continues to overcome the challenges of her past and looks towards a brighter future.
