Miller Moss, a redshirt junior from Los Angeles, has been announced as the starting quarterback at USC. This comes after his impressive performance in the Holiday Bowl, filling in for Caleb Williams, who focused on the NFL draft. Moss threw 372 yards and recorded six touchdowns, a Pac-12 bowl record, against one interception. His impressive showing in the game earned him offensive MVP honors.

Moss had been in competition with Jayden Maiava, a transfer from UNLV, throughout training camp to see who would replace Williams. Williams, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner, and No. 1 overall draft pick, is now the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears. Moss’s victory in the training camp and his Holiday Bowl performance likely solidified his spot as the starting quarterback.

Miller Moss was part of USC’s 2021 recruiting class, the last one under coach Clay Helton. Despite the signing of Jaxson Dart, a more highly-touted quarterback prospect, Moss remained steadfast in his commitment to the Trojans. When Lincoln Riley replaced Helton as coach, and brought Williams with him from Oklahoma, Moss chose to remain at USC and spent the last two seasons as the backup quarterback.

Moss has established a strong record in his career. In 12 career games, he has thrown for 914 yards and nine touchdowns, with only one interception. His physical stats, at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, indicate that he’s more of a pocket passer, which contrasts with Riley’s spread offense that typically favors mobile quarterbacks who can contribute in the run game.

USC is slated to face off against No. 13 LSU in Las Vegas on Sept. 1 in its season opener. Moss will have an opportunity to prove himself yet again in this match-up. Fans and football enthusiasts alike will likely be tuning into the game to see how Moss performs in his new role as the Trojans’ starting quarterback.
