Ukraine’s military intelligence agency has identified Russian Air Force personnel responsible for carrying out Kinzhal missile strikes on civilians. The Kinzhal missile, claimed to be hypersonic by Russia, is difficult to intercept and shoot down. The agency identified 29 individuals working in various roles at the 44th Separate Long-Range Aviation Regiment of the Russian Air Force, based at the Savasleyka airfield in Nizhny Novgorod. Additionally, seven officers from the regiment’s technical staff were identified, along with 11 MiG-31K aircraft numbers. Kinzhal missiles are launched from these MiG-31K aircraft and have an operational range of around 2,000 kilometers, posing a significant threat to Ukraine.

In response to the Kinzhal missile attacks, Ukraine’s Air Force had intercepted 25 out of 63 Kinzhal missiles since the start of the full-scale invasion. The missiles have been used in various attacks, including one in August 2023 that resulted in the death of an eight-year-old child in Kolomyia, as well as an attack on energy infrastructure in Lviv Oblast. The military intelligence agency of Ukraine has vowed that there will be retribution for every war crime committed against Ukraine. The use of Kinzhal missiles has raised concerns about the safety and security of Ukrainian civilians, as the missiles can be launched from Russian airspace and reach targets across Ukraine.

The identification of the Russian Air Force personnel responsible for the Kinzhal missile strikes highlights the complex nature of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The ongoing invasion has led to a significant loss of life and destruction of infrastructure, further escalating tensions between the two nations.
