Suzan Özer, a resident of Şemdinli district in Hakkari, was hospitalized at Şemdinli State Hospital three days ago due to health problems she experienced while she was only 26 weeks pregnant. After the intervention, it was decided to transfer Özer to Hakkari State Hospital by helicopter for advanced testing and treatment.
In order to quickly transport Özer to the hospital due to the vital danger of the babies in the womb, Hakkari Governorship, 34th Border Brigade Command and Provincial Health Directorate took action.
As a result of the cooperation of the institutions, Özer was taken from the district by military helicopter and transported to Hakkari State Hospital. Özer, who was immediately taken to surgery, gave birth to twin boys weighing one kilogram each.
Placed in an intensive care unit equipped with new devices, the babies were cared for by nurses and healthcare professionals with “maternal affection.”
Hospital Chief Physician Op. Dr. Serhat Arman is closely monitoring the condition of the babies who survived thanks to the efforts of the teams.

The childbirth specialist Dr. Ayşegül Elmas, who performed the cesarean section, stated that the patient applied to the hospital due to sudden contractions in the district. Elmas mentioned that after the examination, the patient was quickly transferred to the hospital by military helicopter as it was determined that one of the babies was about to be born. She added that after the initial examinations, they immediately performed a cesarean section. She stated that the operation was successful and that the neonatal intensive care personnel were ready. The babies were handed over to the staff. Their conditions are currently stable, and they are now under close observation.

Neonatal specialist Dr. Yasemin Ezgi Köstekci emphasized that premature births should be performed in a hospital with a third level neonatal intensive care unit and specialist doctors. She stated that birthing a baby in a hospital with such conditions is safer. Köstekci mentioned that the babies weighing 1000 grams each were born healthy and that they were taken to the neonatal unit for low weight and to receive nutrition and respiratory support. She emphasized that their lung development is not sufficient at the moment, so they continue to receive respiratory support. In general, their condition is stable for now.

Köstekci, who stated that the parents can frequently see their babies and provide kangaroo care, emphasized the importance of the babies reaching a certain weight and not needing respiratory support. She mentioned that it is important for them to be able to maintain body temperature in room temperature. She added that this waiting period prolongs if the babies experience different problems related to the heart, brain, and eyes. The mother is also in good condition, and she visits her babies bringing milk. Köstekci expressed that they provide 24-hour care for the babies and handle them with great care and sensitivity, hoping to see the day when they reunite the babies with their families in good health.

Father Hakan Özer recounted that they took his wife to the hospital when she fell ill at home, and were transferred to the city center by helicopter due to the vital danger of the babies. Özer expressed his happiness that the twins were born healthy through surgery. He thanked the Governor, the military, the Provincial Health Directorate, and the doctors and staff at the hospital. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed, stating that the newborn unit is very nice and clean, and they are very grateful for the opportunity in Hakkari. Özer expressed his thankfulness for the doctors who take care of his wife and children, stating that they are grateful for the blessing of having two children instead of one.
