Maya Rudolph, 52, is rumored to be returning to “Saturday Night Live” to reprise her role as Vice President Kamala Harris. However, during an interview with RuPaul, Rudolph did not confirm her return to the show. This news broke on July 31 and sparked speculation about her potential return to the long-running sketch comedy show where she first played Harris in 2019.

Rudolph first portrayed Harris on “SNL” during an episode hosted by Eddie Murphy in December 2019. She expressed that playing Harris has been an exciting and tremendous experience for her. Despite claiming that she has not been approached by the show’s creator Lorne Michaels to reprise her role, Rudolph seems willing and excited to potentially return to portray the Democratic presidential nominee in the upcoming 2024 election.

Apart from her role on “SNL,” Rudolph has also starred in movies like “Bridesmaids” and the Apple TV+ show “Loot.” She has visited “SNL” multiple times and even won an Emmy for her portrayal of Harris during the 2020 presidential race. Rudolph expressed her disbelief at the opportunity to play a presidential candidate and said she never thought she would be associated with such a role during her time on “SNL.”

Recently, Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee after President Biden announced his departure from the race and endorsed her candidacy. The satirical comedy show “Veep,” starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, has seen a surge in viewership, likely due to the similarities between its plot and real-life political events. Louis-Dreyfus clarified that Harris is not similar to her character on the show and suggested that the description might apply to someone else in the race.

Louis-Dreyfus highlighted the contrast between her character on “Veep” and Kamala Harris, emphasizing that Harris is not a narcissistic, megalomaniac sociopath like her character. Despite this, Louis-Dreyfus acknowledged the popularity of the show and expressed her delight at people enjoying it, acknowledging that Kamala Harris is a significant figure in today’s political landscape. As Rudolph teased her potential return to “SNL” as Kamala Harris, fans eagerly look forward to the show’s upcoming season premiering on September 28.
