Marco Bucci was born in Genoa on October 31, 1959. He attended the classical high school Andrea D’Oria and later graduated from the University of Genoa with degrees in pharmacy, chemistry, and pharmaceutical technologies between 1979 and 1985. From the mid-80s to the late 90s, he worked in the chemical sector for 3M, then moved on to Kodak from 1999 to 2006, and finally to Carestream Health from 2007 to 2016 in managerial roles focused on expanding different brands globally. Throughout his career in the pharmaceutical industry, he lived and worked in Ferrania, Genoa, Geneva (Switzerland), and Rochester (USA).

From October 2015 to June 2017, Marco Bucci served as CEO of Liguria Digitale. In 2017, he ran for mayor of Genoa in the municipal elections as a candidate for the center-right coalition, which included Forza Italia, Lega Nord, Brothers of Italy-Alliance for Italy, Direction Italy-Lista Musso, and the civic list Vince Genova. He advanced to the second round with 38.89% of the votes and ultimately won with 55.24%, becoming the first center-right mayor of Genoa since World War II and the first to lead a non-left-wing council since 1975. Bucci ran for re-election in the 2022 municipal elections, supported by the Toti for Bucci, Forza Italia, Lega, Brothers of Italy People of Italy, UDC, New PSI lists, and the civic lists Vince Genova and Genoa Tomorrow. On June 13, he was re-elected in the first round with 55.49% of the votes, a significant lead over his center-left opponent Ariel Dello Strologo.

Among his priorities as mayor, Marco Bucci will focus on infrastructure projects such as the Gronda di Genova, the third passageway, and the new dam. He also plans to work on the high-speed Genova-Torino railway and improving connections between the coast and the inland areas. Healthcare is a key aspect of his program, including the construction of four new hospitals and increased resources for medical services. Another initiative in his agenda is the Energy Valley, with a budget of 300 million euros to support businesses and fund startups in the energy sector.
