In a heartfelt Mother’s Day post, Madonna reminisced about her mother, who passed away when she was just 5 years old. Madonna’s mother, whom she was named after, died of breast cancer in December 1963 at the young age of 30. The singer shared that during her recent Celebration Tour, she often looked up at a picture of her late mom on a jumbo screen while performing on stage, reflecting on her mother’s love and wondering about her thoughts as she waved goodbye from her hospital window.

Madonna opened up about the difficult time she faced as a child, losing her mother without truly understanding the severity of the situation. She expressed that nobody had informed her about her mother’s condition, leading to confusion and a tumultuous relationship with sleep. Despite her struggles and the pain of losing her mother at an early age, Madonna found comfort in the fact that all of her six children were sleeping under one roof, a rare and comforting occurrence for her.

The Grammy winner revealed that she struggles with letting go as her children grow up quickly and head in different directions. In her post, Madonna recounted the moments on stage when she would look up at her mother’s face and have heartfelt conversations with her in her mind. She expressed her doubts and fears about being a good mother to her children, questioning if she was living up to the expectations of David’s biological mom, Malita. Madonna emphasized the deep bond she shares with her children, especially during the time spent together on tour.

Madonna praised her children for being her pillars of support during the tour, helping her navigate through the chaos and challenges they faced together. She marveled at their resilience and the sacrifices they made as a family, reflecting on the late nights, hard work, and endless packing and unpacking they endured on the road. Madonna expressed gratitude for the privilege of bringing people together through music while also longing for the simple joys of sleep.

As her children pursued their passions while on tour, Madonna felt a sense of fulfillment and pride in their achievements. She acknowledged the trials and errors of motherhood, emphasizing that there is no easy way into the game and that it involves constant learning and adapting. Despite the challenges and sacrifices, Madonna cherished the role of motherhood, recognizing that her children played a significant part in raising her as well. She humorously referred to motherhood as an experience of both suffering and joy, highlighting the depth of love and commitment that comes with it.
