The incident took place at around 7 a.m. on Aug. 22 while students were waiting for classes to start. Baton Rouge Police responded to the altercation, which is still under investigation with pending charges. Witnesses reported that the mother was let in through a door near the school’s gymnasium before getting involved in the fight. The student who was struck in the incident, Jah’n’que Brown, claimed that she was defending herself against another student, his sister, and his mother.

Jah’n’que’s mother, Yakisha Brown, expressed her concerns for the safety of her children at school following the fight. Jah’n’que stated that no staff or administrators were present in the room to intervene and stop the fight.
