Aftermath of a Russian missile strike on Ukraine’s Chernihiv is shown in pictures, with the death toll at 17. The head of the Russian space agency announced plans for a modernized rocket capable of launching manned spacecraft by 2027. The Polish finance minister identified the Russia-Ukraine war as the biggest threat to global economic growth affecting various markets. Russian President Putin was not invited to a D-Day event due to the war, although Russian representatives will be. There was a hostile attack on Ukrainian satellite TV channels, leading to disruption in broadcasting. The death toll from the Chernihiv attack rose to 13, with reports of 60 injured.

The Kremlin did not confirm or deny if it was forewarned of Iran’s recent attack on Israel. Active hostilities are unfolding around Chasiv Yar in Donetsk, with a Russian official claiming that Russian forces aim to capture the town soon. Russian Defense Minister Shoigu tested new defense equipment, including robotic vehicles. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy called for more air defenses after a Russian missile strike on Chernihiv killed 10. The International Monetary Fund predicted that Russia’s economy would grow faster than all advanced economies this year.

President Putin called for restraint in the conflict between Iran and Israel, while Russian military deaths in Ukraine surpassed 50,000 according to the BBC. U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen expressed concerns that Russia may be encouraged by the U.S. debate over aid for Ukraine. Russian security chief claimed the Moscow terrorist attackers were linked to Ukrainian nationalists. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine ran out of missiles to stop a Russian strike on a power plant. Chinese President Xi laid out four priorities to prevent the Ukraine crisis from deteriorating.

Russian forces continue to advance in eastern Ukraine in an attempt to capture Chasiv Yar, with Ukraine facing shortages of manpower and materiel. Military actions in the region have intensified, with 16 missile attacks, 31 airstrikes, and 79 MLRS attacks reported in the past 24 hours. Ukrainian forces are struggling to repel Russian offensives due to materiel shortages, according to the Institute for the Study of War.
