Korean Air has announced that they will no longer be providing instant noodles to economy class passengers on long flights in order to prevent burn incidents during turbulence. This decision comes after a recent severe turbulence incident on a Singapore Airlines flight which resulted in the death of a 73-year-old man and injuries to many others. The airline will be removing Shin Ramyun, a popular instant noodle dish that requires boiling water to prepare, from their snack offerings starting on August 15 as a proactive measure to prevent burn accidents.

In addition to removing instant noodles, Korean Air has also announced that they will be finishing long and medium-haul cabin services 20 minutes earlier due to increased turbulence for the safety of crew and passengers. The airline is taking these measures to ensure the safety of passengers in response to the rising trend of turbulence during flights. Passengers in prestige and first-class cabins will still be able to enjoy ramyeon onboard, while economy class passengers will have access to a variety of new snack options such as sandwiches, corn dogs, pizza, and Hot Pockets.

The airline ranked 11th best in the world for 2024, according to CNN. Korean Air is one of 21 airlines that have joined a turbulence real-time data exchange platform launched by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 2020. By participating in this platform, Korean Air is able to access real-time data on turbulence incidents and take proactive measures to ensure the safety of their passengers and crew. Overall, Korean Air is making changes to their in-flight snack offerings and services in response to the increasing trend of turbulence in order to prevent burn accidents and ensure the safety and satisfaction of their passengers.
