Bodycam video footage released by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department in Washington state shows a K-9 assisting officers in the arrest of a suspect who was found naked. The incident began when deputies attempted to contact a man sleeping in a stolen F550 on the morning of August 11. The suspect fled, leading law enforcement on a pursuit into King County, Snohomish County, and eventually Seattle, where he crashed the stolen vehicle and fled on foot, leaving behind his girlfriend and 4-year-old son. The man was quickly identified as having several felony warrants and was known to carry firearms.
The suspect and his girlfriend were encountered by authorities again on August 21 when a deputy spotted the stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The situation escalated quickly, with an officer shooting a hole in the rear window of the stolen car using a 40mm less lethal round. The woman in the vehicle began yelling that she was getting dressed, and the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot, naked. He managed to jump several fences, evading deputies until a K-9 named Bronco tracked him down in a backyard where he was hiding in a trash can.
In the bodycam footage, an officer can be heard yelling, “He’s running naked! Over the fence!” as the team of officers and the K-9 rushed into the backyard to apprehend the suspect. The suspect was eventually taken into custody without further attempts to flee after coming face to face with K-9 Bronco. Despite continuously trying to evade law enforcement, the suspect finally surrendered to deputies when confronted by the K-9. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department praised their deputies and K-9 Bronco for a job well done in capturing the suspect.
The sheriff’s department celebrated the successful arrest in a press release titled “K9 Bronco vs. Naked Guy,” commending the officers and the K-9 involved in the apprehension of the suspect. The suspect, who remains unnamed, had a history of felony warrants and was known to carry firearms, making the situation particularly dangerous for law enforcement. The bodycam footage captured the intense pursuit and eventual arrest of the suspect, as well as the moment K-9 Bronco located him in a trash can in a backyard.
The suspect’s actions led to a multi-county pursuit and ended with him fleeing on foot naked, attempting to evade law enforcement at every turn. Despite the suspect’s efforts to escape, K-9 Bronco proved to be an invaluable asset in apprehending the suspect and bringing him into custody. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department commended their deputies and the K-9 for their efforts in safely capturing the suspect, ensuring the safety of the community, and preventing any further attempts to flee from the suspect.
