However, failures from Jets’ otherwise reliable kicker Greg Zuerlein contributed to the loss as he missed two potential go-ahead field goals, hitting the left upright on both occasions. Numerous penalties were another defining feature of the match, with both teams receiving 11 each.
A notable passage of play saw Allen lead the Bills on a 90-yard drive, capped by an 8-yard TD pass to Mack Hollins. This put Buffalo back in the lead and was followed by a 12-yard throw to Dawson Knox, extending the Bills’ lead to 20-10 just before half time. An unlucky missed potential go-ahead field goal midway through the fourth quarter from Zuerlein and the Jets’ inability to capitalise on scoring opportunities allowed the Bills to regain control and run out the clock. The Jets’ defeat was marred further by injuries to Safety (S) Chuck Clark, who left the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury, and Cornerback (CB) D.J. Reed, who also had to withdraw due to an injured groin.
