Alan Farthing and TV presenter Jill Dando announced their engagement in 1999. Their relationship was cut short by Jill’s murder, which remains unsolved 25 years later. The night before her death, they were planning their wedding, but Jill was shot on her doorstep before she could enter her house. Alan was devastated by her death and struggled to come to terms with the loss. He found a notebook containing Jill’s wedding speech draft a week later.

After Jill’s death, Alan continued to pursue his medical career. In 2008, he was appointed as the late Queen Elizabeth II’s surgeon-gynaecologist and attended to various members of the Royal Family. He helped deliver all three of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children. In June 2023, he was honored with the Commander of the Royal Victorian Order for his services to the Royal Household. He also works as the Head of Department at the Gynaecological Cancer at Imperial College Hospitals NHS Trust.

In September 2023, a documentary titled Who Killed Jill Dando? was released on Netflix, exploring the case. Alan refused to participate in the documentary, along with other close associates of Jill, due to concerns about how the story was presented. He chose not to engage in a narrative that focused on conspiracy theories rather than facts. Despite the media attention, Alan found love again and married fellow medic Dr. Janet Stowell in 2008. They welcomed a son in 2010, and Jill’s family reportedly gave their blessings to the couple, bringing comfort to Alan.

Alan’s life post-Jill’s death has been a mix of professional accomplishments and personal tragedies. He has navigated the complexities of grief and loss while remaining devoted to his medical career. The murder of Jill Dando remains an unsolved mystery, casting a shadow over Alan’s past and present. As he continues to move forward in life, his experiences with love, loss, and resilience serve as a testament to the enduring impact of Jill’s untimely death on his life and the nation. The case remains an open wound, a symbol of justice denied and a love story tragically cut short.
