Two elementary school teachers in Texas were removed from their classroom after being accused of putting special stickers containing melatonin on their students to keep them quiet. Parents reported that their children were given a “sleeping sticker” during school hours, which later affected their behavior at home. One parent, Lisa Luviano, became concerned after her 4-year-old showed her a blue sticker with a moon and stars that her teacher had given her for “sleeping time.” The school administrators were informed about the incident but failed to take immediate action, prompting Luviano to send out a mass text to other parents warning them about the situation.

The adhesive stickers were found to be Sleep ZPatch, a sleeping aid containing melatonin and other ingredients meant for adults over the age of 18. This led Luviano and other parents to be worried about the well-being of their children and prompted them to report the incident to the Spring Independent School District and Child Protective Services. Concerns were raised about the impact of the stickers on the children’s behavior, with some parents noticing changes such as increased crying and trouble sleeping and eating. Several children were taken to the hospital for examination following the reports.

After two weeks of inaction from the school district, the two teachers were finally placed on administrative leave pending a police investigation. The district stated that the safety of the students is their highest priority and they take all allegations of misconduct seriously. The teachers and two paraprofessionals were removed from the classroom as a precautionary measure while the investigation is ongoing. The district also noted that the teachers violated policy by providing any student with medications without proper authorization.

The incident caused outrage among parents and the community, leading to concerns about the safety and well-being of the students in the school. The allegations of giving students a sleeping aid to keep them quiet raised questions about the ethical conduct of the teachers. Parents who noticed changes in their children’s behavior were quick to report the incident to the authorities and sought medical attention for their children. The school district’s slow response to the situation further escalated concerns about how the matter was being handled.

The teachers involved in the incident have not been identified, but they are currently under investigation by the SISD Police Department. The school district urged the community to be patient as the investigation proceeds, emphasizing that the safety of the students is their priority. The violation of policy by the teachers highlighted the importance of following proper procedures when it comes to students’ health and well-being. The case will continue to be monitored as more details emerge about the alleged misconduct and the impact on the students.
