Summarize this content to 2000 words in 6 paragraphs The Houston Texans have made some moves with a capital ‘M’ this offseason. The team bolstered their offense after a surprise 2023 season led by Offensive Rookie of the Year quarterback C.J. Stroud. The team is ready to take a big leap, and they showed it with a flurry of moves, including acquiring Pro-Bowl running back Joe Mixon. The Texans and their front office traded for Mixon on March 13 from the Cincinnati Bengals. The next day, Mkxon signed a three-year, $27 million contract extension through the 2026 season. He and the Texans are ready to take on the AFC South, the AFC, and the entire league by store. However, Texans general manager Nick Caserio hopes it lasts longer than 2026. In an interview with the media last week, Caserio said he hopes Mixon is in Houston for the long run, past 2026.”Joe was set to be released. He was a player that we evaluated, and we thought could help our team in some capacity,” Caserio said this week, via team transcript, when asked about acquiring Mixon. “So, to the earlier question, you get on the phone, talk to the team. ‘Hey, we’d be interested. Would you guys be willing to give up a pick, or if we gave up a pick would you be interested?’ That’s kind of how the trade was consummated. Just relative to the commitment we made to Joe, Joe has been a productive player, pretty consistent player, and we think he can help our team. We’re glad he’s here hopefully for a few more years. That’s how that all sort of came together.”

The 27-year-old can certainly still be the guy, who can be reliable outside of the team’s fantastic pass catchers. In 2023, Mixon recorded yet another 1,000-yard rushing season, the fourth time in his career. Along with those 1K yards, he also collected nine rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns and played in all 17 games. The former Oklahoma Sooner has collected 6412 yards in 1571 carries and 49 touchdowns in 97 career games. The Bengals drafted him in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft. Mixon was a Bengal his entire career, leading them to their third Super Bowl appearance in 2021, where they fell short to the Los Angeles Rams, 23-20.The Texans did not come to play this offseason. They look like a threat on paper and are ready to take that next leap to become powerhouses in the AFC. We’ll see if Mixon can do his part.
