HomeToGo, a German vacation rental platform, has announced a partnership with Komoot, a route planning and navigation app for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, mountain biking, and running. The partnership is part of HomeToGo’s efforts to boost its experiences business. HomeToGo offers price comparisons for short-term rentals and experiences, processing some vacation rental bookings on its own website and sending customers to partner websites for others. Komoot, founded in 2010, covers international sporting events like bike and trail running races.

The partnership with Komoot will provide hiking and biking route planning and navigation tools to HomeToGo’s travelers as part of its vacation rental booking experience, making its experience business more comprehensive. After booking with HomeToGo, travelers are directed to a post-booking confirmation page where they can access a complimentary map from Komoot by downloading the HomeToGo app. A voucher from HomeToGo allows them to access Komoot maps specific to their trip. The feature is currently only available for travelers in Germany booking with HomeToGo, but may extend to other travelers and markets later.

HomeToGo’s partnership with Komoot aligns with its efforts to boost experiences as a service to its customers. Previously, the company partnered with GetYourGuide to integrate experiences into travelers’ post-booking journey and with Squake, a climate tech solution for sustainable travel. In 2023, HomeToGo ended the year with 190 million euros in revenue and 22 million euros in net income, citing improved marketing efficiency and repeat bookings from customers as key factors in its path to profitability. CEO Patrick Andrae emphasized that partnerships are crucial for the company’s repeat business and building a loyal customer base.

The partnership with Komoot is aimed at offering outdoor-loving guests access to world-class route planning and navigation tools. Director of Product Ben Gordon highlighted that this partnership empowers guests to discover stunning hiking and biking routes around their rentals, particularly in rural areas. HomeToGo declined to comment on the financial details of the partnership, but the cooperation with Komoot indicates a focus on enhancing the overall vacation rental booking experience for travelers.

By providing hiking and biking route planning and navigation tools through its partnership with Komoot, HomeToGo is expanding its offerings and making its experience business more comprehensive. The company’s focus on boosting experiences as a service to customers through partnerships with companies like GetYourGuide and Squake demonstrates a commitment to offering a well-rounded vacation rental experience. As HomeToGo continues to grow and improve its marketing efficiency, partnerships will remain a key component in building repeat business and a loyal customer base.
