Tyheem Menardy, a 26-year-old homeless man with 33 prior arrests, was recently arrested in Manhattan for a series of perverted groping attacks on women. Despite his extensive criminal history, Menardy continues to end up back on the streets. In the latest incidents from March 24-29, he was charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse after groping four women in different locations throughout Manhattan.
Menardy has a history of arrests for offenses such as assault, grand larceny, robbery, and trespassing, but does not appear to have spent any time in the New York prison system. In his most recent string of crimes, he was accused of groping multiple women in different areas of Manhattan, including the Lower East Side, Chelsea, and Kips Bay. The victims ranged in age from 34 to 52, and Menardy allegedly targeted them during the day while riding a Citi Bike.
The incidents occurred between March 24-29, with each victim offering accounts of Menardy approaching them from behind and inappropriately touching them before fleeing the scene. One victim managed to record the offender as he attempted to evade capture. Menardy was eventually arrested for stealing a Citi Bike by force, leaving the rider with injuries, although the charges related to this crime were not eligible for bail, and he was granted supervised release.
Despite being arrested for similar offenses in the past, Menardy has consistently been able to evade harsh punishments and find his way back onto the streets. His criminal behavior has continued without intervention from the justice system, allowing him to target more victims. In the most recent incident, where he is accused of groping four women in a span of several days, Menardy faces charges of forcible touching and sexual abuse, but bail was not an option for the crimes he was charged with.
Menardy’s repeated offenses, targeting women in public places during daylight hours, have led to increased concern and frustration among law enforcement and the public. The Manhattan DA’s Office has taken steps to hold him accountable for his actions, requiring bail for his latest offenses, including the recent groping attacks. Menardy is set to appear in court in May for the most recent charges, and the judicial system is working to prevent him from being released back onto the streets to commit further crimes.
