Autism, a complex neurodevelopmental difference that is usually noticed in the early years of life and is defined as a condition present at birth, was previously seen in one out of every 2,500 children in 1985. However, according to recent research, today it is found in one out of every 36 children. In order to raise awareness about autism and ensure equal social acceptance for individuals with autism, a foundation will conduct a special campaign on the “World Autism Awareness Day” declared by the United Nations.

The campaign aims to draw public attention to autism and will include various activities based on understanding and learning about autism in collaboration with many organizations. Supporters will come together under the slogan “shine a red light on autism” and this year, historic and iconic buildings in Istanbul and different cities in Turkey will be illuminated with red lights to support the Tohum Autism Foundation.

Private sector buildings will also be lit up with red lights to send a message of support to individuals with autism. In a statement, Burçak Karakaya, the General Manager of the Tohum Autism Foundation, invited everyone to support the campaign. Karakaya stressed that they are working together with individuals with autism to build an inclusive and accessible world where their differences are accepted at home, school, workplace, and in all areas of life.

The campaign is part of a global effort to increase understanding and support for individuals with autism. As the prevalence of autism continues to rise, initiatives like these play a crucial role in promoting acceptance and inclusion. By illuminating landmarks and buildings with red lights, the campaign aims to spark conversations and foster a more supportive environment for individuals with autism. This year’s activities will strive to emphasize the importance of empathy, education, and advocacy in creating a world where individuals with autism can thrive.

Through collaborative efforts and community engagement, it is hoped that the campaign will not only raise awareness about autism but also promote a more inclusive society where individuals with autism are valued and supported. By shining a red light on autism, supporters are sending a powerful message of solidarity and acceptance, highlighting the importance of embracing differences and working together to create a world that is inclusive for all. The campaign serves as a reminder that every individual, regardless of their background or abilities, deserves to be treated with respect and understanding.
