This year, the advertising agency Proximity Madrid chose Vigo, a city in Spain that spends the most money per capita on Christmas decorations after Madrid, to be featured in the traditional Christmas lottery commercial. The short film follows a man named Julián, played by Amadeo Marín, who lives in a dying village and travels to Vigo to buy his lottery ticket. He becomes a viral sensation when a journalist asks who he will share his ticket with, to which he replies that he has no one to share it with.

The commercial starts at Bar Robles, actually an old café bar in Gondomar, near Vigo, where Julián and his friend discuss the decline of their village due to lack of customers. Despite portraying a deserted Spain, Gondomar actually has a population of 14,702. The protagonist’s journey to Vigo showcases various locations in the city center, including the Avenida Gixar, Progreso Street, and Doutor Cadaval. The focus is on the lottery office number 14, A casa da sorte, near Puerta del Sol, where the famous huge Christmas tree of Vigo is situated.

The owner of the real lottery office, Sara Martínez, is excited to see her business featured in the commercial. The filming in Vigo lasted eight days and did not involve professional actors to maintain authenticity. Despite the usual secrecy surrounding these commercials, rumors on social media had already hinted towards Vigo being the chosen location. The official website of the commercial allows users to add an image of their own town at the beginning of the commercial to showcase different parts of the country.

The Christmas commercial for the lottery highlights the charm and beauty of Vigo, a city known for its festive decorations and Christmas spirit. By featuring the real locations and people of the city, the commercial captures the essence of the holiday season and the joy of sharing the lottery experience with others. The unique choice of Vigo as the setting for the ad adds a special touch and authenticity to the traditional Christmas lottery promotion.
