Cory Alan Olson, a fugitive sex offender labeled Detroit’s “most wanted” since 2018, was captured in Burien, Washington state, after a pursuit by law enforcement. Olson had been evading authorities while living in Washington under various aliases, including the name “Randall” which belonged to an individual in Kansas. Authorities became aware of Olson’s whereabouts after the person in Kansas was questioned about taxes on income earned elsewhere. Detective Riley Myklebust played a crucial role in Olson’s capture and expressed the complexity of investigating identity theft cases, noting the challenges he faced in tracking down Olson. Despite Olson’s refusal to admit his identity, fingerprints confirmed his true persona.

Olson has a criminal history that includes the sexual assault of a teenage girl and evading arrest by injuring a deputy in a car crash. After moving to Washington, he faced additional charges for sexual assault against a person with special needs. During his arraignment for identity theft, criminal impersonation, and forgery charges, Olson’s attorney managed to keep his identity protected. Police emphasized the importance of public recognition due to Olsen’s repeated sexual offenses, highlighting his pattern of attending karaoke bars and posing as a wealthy investor with a military background to target women with teenage daughters. Detectives confirmed Olsen’s presence in various Washington communities such as Issaquah, downtown Seattle, Puyallup, and Olympia using different aliases like Josiah, Payton, and Nikko.

Detectives discovered Olson as he was getting into his car for a new job in Burien. Attempts to stop him led to Olson pushing a sergeant and driving away. However, Myklebust managed to catch Olson shortly after in a minivan pursuit, with fingerprints conclusively proving his identity. Despite confirming his identity, Olson continued to deny it. Throughout his time on the run, Olson relocated to Washington state and was known to present himself under multiple names to avoid detection. Olson’s attorney sought to protect his identity during the arraignment process, which was granted by the court.

Authorities have urged any victims of Olson to come forward and contact the police. Olson’s history of sexual offenses makes it crucial for victims to seek justice and closure by speaking out about their experiences. The relentless pursuit and capture of Olson demonstrate the dedication of law enforcement to apprehend dangerous criminals evading justice. The community’s safety is a top priority, and it is essential to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to prevent further harm. Olson’s arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and the public in ensuring the safety and security of communities.
