Ana Pastor, former Minister of Health and President of the Congress of Deputies in Spain, has resigned from her position as a Member of Parliament for Pontevedra to join a private health insurance company. The Popular Party (PP) announced in a statement that Pastor will be joining the professional healthcare sector as the president of the Mutual Insurance Association, AMA. She personally informed PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo of her decision during a meeting at the Congress. Pastor has held various political positions within the PP, serving as Minister of Health from 2002-2004 and Minister of Public Works from 2011-2016, as well as being elected as a Member of Parliament since 2000. She has also served as President of the Congress of Deputies and Vice President on three occasions.
In her resignation statement, Pastor expressed her gratitude to her party for the opportunities they have given her and her commitment to serving the interests of the Spanish people. She expressed confidence in Feijóo’s leadership as the future president of the government, believing that he will guide the country back on a path of progress. During Pablo Casado’s presidency, she was responsible for the PP’s Social Policy, which included healthcare issues that she will now continue to address in the private sector.
