Maxwell Azzarello, a man who tragically died after setting himself on fire during former President Trump’s hush money trial, had worked for Democrat congressman Tom Suozzi at one point. Azzarello briefly served as Operations Director for Friends of Tom Suozzi in 2013. Rep. Tom Suozzi currently represents Nassau County and parts of Queens, having recently taken office in February. He previously served as a congressman from 2017 to 2023, before Rep. George Santos briefly filled his seat. Azzarello’s LinkedIn profile detailed his work with Suozzi, including preparing the candidate for debates, organizing commercial shoots, and planning logistics for campaign rallies.

Unfortunately, Azzarello succumbed to his injuries at around 10:30 p.m., nine hours after the event. The pamphlets he distributed contained a link to his Substack page and discussed conspiracy theories. The New York City Police Department confirmed his death and is currently investigating the incident.

Azzarello’s job responsibilities while working for Suozzi also included developing social media content, drafting press releases, and updating event calendars. Suozzi spoke out about the tragic event, recalling Azzarello as someone who was kind, smart, and hardworking during their time together. Despite not having been in contact with Azzarello for some time, Suozzi remembered him fondly and extended his condolences to Azzarello’s family. The congressman expressed his sadness over the tragic turn of events and mentioned that he was keeping Azzarello and his family in his prayers.
